The first step is to complete the below application form so that we know a little bit about you and your home life. We do this so we can find the right match for both you and your new dog. Once we receive your application, an AABR board member will contact you, please be aware that it could take a few days for this to happen as we are a small team of volunteers.

If you already own a dog, we will arrange a meet and greet to make sure they will be able to get along. If your meet goes well from start to finish with no problems at all and everyone is happy we will then arrange a home check, be advised this can sometimes take a few days to find a volunteer in your area to come and visit. You will also need to read and sign a pre-adoption contract. Photos of your garden will be needed also and we will arrange a time for a home-checker to come when it suits you.

If you pass your home check you will not necessarily be told straight away however we will either call or email you to inform you of the results, if something needs fixing (e.g. fencing) we will give you time to arrange for this to be sorted and organise a followup inspection. Once everything has been passed and adoption fee received arrangements can be made for the dog to join your family.

All dogs have a trial period in which time if the dog has not settled or not getting along with your dog then the dog can be returned and adoption fee refunded (minus $85 administration fee).

After the trial period is up and everyone is happy the dog’s paperwork will be sent to you.

We would advise if possible you take time off work to help your new dog settle into his/her new home.
